Andrea Bocelli was born to Alessandro and Edi Bocelli on September 22, 1958. He was visually impaired from birth because of congenital glaucoma. He has mentioned that his mother’s choice to have him despite the doctor’s recommendations inspired his stance against abortion.

Professional Career of Andrea Bocelli

In 1992, Italian rock musician Zucchero held auditions for tenors to create a demo of his song "Miserere" for Luciano Pavarotti. After listening to Bocelli's tape, Pavarotti recommended that Zucchero choose Bocelli over himself. Eventually, Pavarotti convinced Zucchero to record the song with Bocelli, which became a hit across Europe.

During Zucchero's European concert tour in 1993, Bocelli joined him to perform the duet and also had solo performances, including "Nessun Dorma" from Giacomo Puccini's opera Turandot. After Caterina Caselli heard him sing "Miserere" and "Nessun Dorma" at Zucchero's birthday party, Bocelli signed with the Sugar Music label in Milan.
