S-Block Elements Parts
The S-block element is made up of two groups such as:
- Group 1 Elements
- Group 2 Elements
Properties of S-Block Group 1 Elements
- They are soft metals.
- They possess low melting and boiling points.
- Largest atomic radii in their corresponding periods and are good conductors of heat and electricity.
- Low values of ionization energies are hence highly electropositive.
- Low atomic and ionic sizes.
- Greater charge density (charge/volume of the atom)
- Greater ability for polarization
- Absence of d-orbitals.
Properties of S-Block Group 2 Elements
- S-block group 2 elements are called alkaline earth metals.
- These metals form alkaline oxides and hydroxides.
- These metal oxides occur in the earth’s crust.
