S-Block Elements Parts

The S-block element is made up of two groups such as:

  • Group 1 Elements
  • Group 2 Elements

Properties of S-Block Group 1 Elements

  1. They are soft metals.
  2. They possess low melting and boiling points.
  3. Largest atomic radii in their corresponding periods and are good conductors of heat and electricity.
  4. Low values of ionization energies are hence highly electropositive.
  5. Low atomic and ionic sizes.
  6. Greater charge density (charge/volume of the atom)
  7. Greater ability for polarization
  8. Absence of d-orbitals.

Properties of S-Block Group 2 Elements

  • S-block group 2 elements are called alkaline earth metals.
  • These metals form alkaline oxides and hydroxides.
  • These metal oxides occur in the earth’s crust.

List of S-block Elements

  1. Hydrogen (H)
  2. Lithium (Li)
  3. Helium (He)
  4. Sodium (Na)
  5. Beryllium (Be)
  6. Potassium (K)
  7. Magnesium (Mg)
  8. Rubidium (Rb)
  9. Calcium (Ca)
