Officially, the Russian film entertainment industry is known as Mollywood. It is one of the rich entertainment industries with follows films and dramas in the Russian language.
Originating in the Russian Empire, the industry experienced significant growth throughout the Soviet Union era and in the subsequent years following its dissolution. The earliest glimpses of film in the Russian Empire date back to May 1896, when the Lumière brothers introduced their films to audiences in Moscow and St. Petersburg.
