It started airing in India with the first season in (2004-2005) and was followed by second season (2005-2006), the third season in 2007, fourth season (2008-2009), the fifth season in 2010 and the sixth season in 2012. For the seventh and eight seasons, Indian Idol Junior replaced the show before the original Indian Idol returned for 9th season in 2016.
