Cynthia Erivo, born on January 8, 1987, in Stockwell, London, England, is an accomplished English actress and singer. She gained acclaim for her performances in the Broadway revival of The Color Purple spanning from 2015 to 2017. Her outstanding work in the production earned her the 2016 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical and the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album.

In 2011, Cynthia Erivo started her career by appearing in British television programs such as Chewing Gum and The Tunnel. Her first stage role was in Marine Parade by Simon Stephens at the Brighton Festival.

Cynthia's first musical role was in John Adams' and June Jordan's I Was Looking at the Ceiling and Then I Saw the Sky at Theatre Royal Stratford East.
