National Defence Academy (NDA)


NDA stands for National Defence Academy. The NDA entrance exam is a gateway for the aspirants who want to make their career in the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force by Union Public Service Commission.

When NDA Exam Organized?


National Defence Academy (NDA) exam is organized twice every year in the months of April and November. The NDA exam is divided into two sections.


  1. First written test round with the minimum qualifying marks then appear for the SSB Interview round to get entry into NDA.
  2. Only cleared SSB round, candidates qualified will go through the medical examination and document verification process.


Application Fee For NDA Exam


  • The application fee for all the candidates is Rs. 100
  • ST/SC/NCOs/Ors/Sons of JCOs candidates are exempted to pay the application fee.
  • Application fees can be paid by the applicants through the SBI Bank Challan method or debit or credit card/net banking method.


Eligibility For NDA Exam


  • Candidates must be citizens of India/subject of Bhutan/subject of Nepal or Refugee of Tibetan (came to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention to settle permanently in India).
  • Candidate of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, and Ethiopia or Vietnam with an intention of settling in India can also apply.
  • Foreign nationals have to produce certificates of eligibility issued by the Government of India. Gurkha (subjects of Nepal) need not be required to produce this certificate.
  • Only Males candidates are eligible to apply.
  • The candidate’s age must be between 16.5 – 19.5 years.
  • Applying candidates must be unmarried, married candidates cannot until complete their training.


Qualification for NDA Exam


  • For Air Force and Naval Wings - Candidates should have passed their 10th and 12th level exams from a recognized board/university with the main subjects of Physics and Mathematics.
  • For Army Wing of National Defense Academy - Candidates should have passed their 10th and 12th level exams from a recognized board or university.
  • Appearing candidates are also eligible to apply given that they clear the exam before the final selection.
  • Candidates appearing in the class 11th exam are not eligible to apply.


Physical Eligibility For NDA Exam


  • Candidates should be physically fit for this exam.
  • Candidates resigning from any of the training academies of the Armed Forces on disciplinary grounds will not be considered eligible to apply.


 

Paper Pattern For NDA Exam


Mathematics


  • Time Duration: 150 minutes
  • Total Marks: 300


General Ability Test


  • Time Duration: 150 minutes
  • Total Marks: 600 [English section carrying 200 marks and General Knowledge section carrying 400 marks]


SSB InterviewTest


  • Total Marks: 900 Mark


Important Rule For Exam


  • Exam Mode: The exam will be conducted in Pen and Paper (offline) mode.
  • Questions Type: The questions asked in the exam paper will be of objective type.
  • Languages: The question paper will be available in English as well as the Hindi language.
  • Negative Marking: 33% of the mark assigned to the question will be deducted for every incorrect answer.



Syllabus of NDA Exam


  • Mathematics - Matrices and Determinants, Algebra, Analytical Geometry of two and three Dimensions, Trigonometry, Integral calculus & Differential Equations, Differential Calculus, Statistics and Probability, Vector Algebra, etc.
  • English - Vocabulary, Comprehension, Grammar and Usage, Cohesion and Comprehension
  • General Knowledge - Physics, Chemistry, General Science, Social Studies, Geography, and Current Events



Selection Process of SSB Interview


  • Psychological Tests: Picture Perception and Description Test (PPDT), Intelligence test, and filling up of Personal Information Questionnaire (PIQ) forms.
  • Second Round Test: Word Association Test, Situation Reaction Test, Thematic Apperception Test, and Self-description Test.
  • Third Round Test: Group Discussion Test, Military Planning Exercise, Featurettes, Intergroup Obstacle Race or Snake Race, Progressive Group Task, Half Group Task, Command Task, etc.
  • Last Round Test: Individual Obstacles, Final Group Task, Interview for Remaining Candidates, Final Board Conference, and Announcement of Results.
